Hello from New York! We are with Dr. Matthias Steinwachs, who is in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Matthias Steinwachs is a specialist in minimally invasive orthopedic surgery of the knee. He is a Head Physician in SportClinic Zurich and in Hirslanden Clinic, also in Zurich. Dr. Matthias Steinwachs obtained his MD and PhD from the Universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen in Germany. He then trained in orthopedics at the University Hospital Freiburg in Germany. Professor Steinwachs also conducted research in cell cultivation and cartilage tissue engineering at the University Hospital Freiburg. Dr. Matthias Steinwachs was a Senior Physician at the Department of Orthopaedics, and Medical Director of the Section for Cartilage Transplantation, both at the University Hospital Freiburg, Germany. He was then a head physician for orthobiology and cartilage regeneration at Schulthess Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland. Clinical and research interests of Dr. Matthias Steinwachs include diagnosis and minimally invasive surgical treatment of complex knee injuries. He is a specialist in arthroscopic knee surgery and in cartilage repair and regeneration. Dr. Matthias Steinwachs did extensive research in cartilage repair, regeneration, human mesenchymal stem cells, and in autologous cartilage transplantation. Dr. Steinwachs specializes in all aspects of complex surgery of the knee, including meniscus regeneration, cruciate ligament sports injuries treatment, minimally invasive surgery of knee joint, patellar injury and collateral ligament injury treatments. Dr. Matthias Steinwachs was a founding member of clinical tissue regeneration work group in the German Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Dr. Steinwachs is a member of the Swiss knee experts group at Swiss Orthopaedics. He was also a Member of the board of the Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery, and Chair of its knee-cartilage-meniscus committee and general knee committee. Professor Matthias Steinwachs is a member of Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery, European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy, German Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, German Association of Orthopaedics and Sports Traumatology, International Cartilage Repair Society, Swiss Medical Association, and Swiss Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and Zurich Medical Association. Dr. Matthias Steinwachs has authored and co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications in international medical journals. He presented numerous talks at international conferences on cartilage repair and regeneration, and on orthopedic surgery of the knee research and treatment.
