Hello from Helsinki, Finland! Dr. Anton Titov, MD. Today we are with Dr. Mika Niemela. He is Professor of Neurosurgery at University of Helsinki. Dr. Mika Niemela, MD, is Head of Helsinki University Hospital Neurosurgery Department. Dr. Niemela obtained his MD and PhD from University of Helsinki. He did residency training in neurosurgery at University of Helsinki. Dr. Mika Niemela, MD, also was a visiting neurosurgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. It is a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Niemela's clinical and research interests include diagnosis and treatment of brain aneurysms, brain arteriovenous malformations, brain cavernoma. They are also known as cavernous angiomas, and dural arteriovenous fistulas. Dr. Niemela also focuses his practice on microsurgical treatment of benign and malignant brain tumors. His basic research interests include brain aneurism vascular wall changes, genetics and risk factors for brain aneurysm formation and rupture. Professor Niemela does research on clinical outcomes of neurosurgery-related disease treatment. Dr. Niemela has authored and co-authored over 180 publications in peer-reviewed international medical journals.
